Becoming a Minimalist and Being Happy!
I got to a point in my life where I felt overwhelmed. I didn't know why I just thought I was working too hard which I was but it wasn't my only issue. When I was at work I didn't feel peace or when I was at home I didn't feel peace. I didn't have a bad relationship with anyone at work or home but yet I felt unsteady. I happened to be on youtube one day looking up vegetarian recipes and my new interest in plants and ran across this page Pick Up Limes. The page was aligned with my interests so I notice they had another topic that kept coming up about minimalism. I wasn't sure what exactly was that but decided to watch.
In the video, she basically talks about living with the necessities and how she dropped the habit of having so much. It was interesting that I was watching this because I just watched a Netflix series called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. In this series, Marie Kondo talked about only keeping what brings you joy. I thought this was interesting. I starting watching because I struggled with cleaning and I never did before but it wasn't that cleaning was my issue. I just had too much stuff and NO I wasn't a hoarder...lol. Tidying up wasn't just a cleaning show it was about having respect for your items and only keeping that ones that truly speaks to you. The items that makes you happy.
If you think about it we all only want happy things around us. We have 3 basic reactions to everything Happy, Sad, and Ok. In our home, we control that environment but sometimes we get wrap up in things like I should keep this I could use this later or think something is nice or pretty but doesn't give us joy or happiness. In reality, we should only want happiness and joy around us. Marie thing was to pick up the item if it doesn't instantly bring joy to you then you should give away or throw it away if it does keep it. It was such a simple concept but it resonated with me. After watching "Pick Up Limes" video I realized that I didn't have peace because I had so much stuff that didn't do anything for me. Believe it or not "STUFF" can make you feel certain ways. Something things can have bad memories or can be attached to a person(s) who have bad sprits and they are in your home without you realizing it.
I have been purging my stuff and I must admit that I feel so much better doing it. I feel a weight being lifted but I still have a lot more to go. You don't realize how much stuff you actually have. I will also say cleaning has been easier since I purged. Are there any minimalist? Is this something you think about doing? Share your thoughts in the comments?
Sincerely,
Rhonda
